These bigger screen prints take a pretty long time. Normally it is about 4 weeks worth of work over all. Its big stencils, big screens, big paper to handle, lots of inks to mix. I hope in the end it is all worth it! I think with most of them it is and I hope this piece as well.
I had been dreaming of this piece for months but when it finally came together, as usual, it really made itself what it is today. The inspiration came from a day spent in Santa Cruz. I started the day with a hike in Henry Cowell redwoods on a trail that went through the forest and out to a lookout where I could see all the way down to Big Sur. My day then ended up walking along the beach to the north of town. I loved seeing all the people out enjoying themselves with the beautiful weather and watching the birds flying and feasting as well. This one has so many of my favorite things in it, but I love those small details the most, the father and his kids on the beach, the two dogs playing and the majestic pelicans in the sky. For me those are really what brings it so much life.
